Drum roll, please! The 2016 Digital Nichee Awards Party was a great way to unwind after the Niche Digital Conference in Denver last week. This super fun event recognizes the creative digital products of the very best niche media companies.
And this year we significantly expanded the categories so more of your digital excellence could shine! Our entries did not disappoint. The judges were so impressed by the level of ingenuity and innovation. Maybe it’s because niche media has more room to experiment than the big guys? In any event, here are 2016’s well-deserved award winners:
Both of these winners stood out among the rest for bright, clean design and the perfect mix of highly engaging and revenue-generating content. They also included and excelled in social media programs, such as partnering with a CVB for an Instagram contest or encouraging lively discussion on Twitter.
Best Digital Edition or supplement: Business Aviation Insider
This publisher built a better digital edition mousetrap by putting their energies into a mobile app–with great success! They had 2,700 first-time app launches in just 14 months.
Best Niche Blog: Bethesda Beat
Talk about a power move–Bethesda Magazine knocks it out of the park with their daily news blog! They have taken a leading position in a news market within their niche with a product that has an audience now twice the size of the magazine’s. With 3 full-time reporters and huge opportunities for cross-selling, this blog was a clear winner.
2016 Best Niche Use of Video: Behind the Shutter
High-quality production value, good use of sound, music and lighting, which you might expect from this niche. But this winner also truly leveraged their videos for success. Their creative strategy includes links to further gated content and different levels of membership opportunities.
2016 Best Niche Single-Shot Social: ASBMB Today
This home-grown effort became the catalyst for an engaging event. Creative way to take your event to the next level!
The best thing about this award is that it doesn’t matter if your social media budget is $100,000 or $1,000. It’s all about how you micro-target your audience and how well you implement your social media strategy. The numbers don’t lie! Both these two winners had impressive results and vibrant, active, integrated social media worlds.
2016 Best Niche B2B Website: ACC Docket
Great use of design and organization to guide readers where they want to go. Plus they offer an astounding level of resources for their visitors.
2016 Best Niche B2C Website: Arkansas Bride
Beautiful, glossy and easy to navigate, this website knows their audience and delivers every single thing a bride might want to know about for the Big Day.
2016 Innovation in Niche Media: Smart Meetings
Their mobile program was as equally outstanding as the rest of their content marketing. Smart Meetings uses tons of creative video, content, user tools and resource centers to provide their audience with a “Wow!” every time they visit.
So there you have it, the best of 2016! With so many new opportunities to create on the horizon, we can hardly wait to see next year’s entries bring to the competition.
