Online Marketing: Publishers + Partners = Profit!

No need to forge e-commerce alone. You can form profitable online partnerships!

More and more traditional niche publishers are morphing into “media companies.” They not only produce print publications, but digital versions, webinars, events and other revenue streams, too. And now niche magazines are forging into the wonderful world of e-commerce.

Here’s an intriguing website/search portal to check out: Founded by Heather Marie in S.F. in 2011, Shoppable.com works with multiple retailers, including digital publishers large and small, to create a scale-able source of native e-commerce sales. Yes, Shoppable is reaching out to publishers as potential merchants.

Why would this be good for niche publishers? Publishers can increase awareness for their niche brand by selling products their niche audience wants–and also share in the profits with Shoppable. This also enables the publisher to market to a whole new set of eyeballs not normally immersed in their niche.

The site definitely doesn’t have as many merchants as say, Amazon, but we took note that Dwell magazine has 48 items listed for purchase on the website.

Interesting possibilities. Could this website help you market your brand and generate revenue too? We do know this: Online marketing with a profit-sharing component is fundamentally changing the traditional relationship between advertiser and publisher.
