Active NorCal, Northern California’s sport, fitness and outdoor magazine, released its first issue in January of 2014. The publication celebrates fun and healthy lifestyles while embracing the beautiful Northern California outdoors. Written for and distributed around five counties in California’s North Valley, Active NorCal has found success bringing local communities together through shared passions and hobbies.
Rounding out its second year, the magazine’s revenues have more than doubled–growth that can be attributed to an integrated sales approach.
Offering a variety of print advertisements, website banner ads and event sponsorships, the Active NorCal team has created a viable marketing avenue for every business depending on its marketing goals. Th
e publication also rewards advertisers who commit to using multiple marketing mediums with price breaks and additional digital promotions.
While the Active NorCal team does adhere to strict editorial guidelines, they do like to give advertisers a say in the editorial process. I like to attend sales meetings with my sales staff in order to discuss future editorial and receive any feedback from current or potential advertisers. Many clients have great ideas for articles, and if turned into content, their contributions make them feel closer to the magazine and advertisement(s) they have placed.
